McBride Sisters Collection Reserve Pinot Noir "Papatūānuku" Central Otago, New Zealand 2019

Awarded 92 Points in 2022 by Wine Enthusiast.
Experience the strong bond to land and "Mother Earth" with the first ever McBride Sisters Collection New Zealand Reserve Pinot Noir “Papatūānuku”. Inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand, where Andréa grew up splitting time between her mother’s family and her Māori foster family, this wine showcases the rich history of the soil in the Central Otago region of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Grown in the Bannockburn, Gibbston and Pisa sub-regions of Central Otago, the grapes were hand harvested and 80% were de-stemmed, contributing vibrant fruit flavors. Twenty percent were fermented in whole bunches to give the wine greater complexity. The grapes were fermented using wild yeast and hand plunged daily. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, 15% of which were new, and is unfined and unfiltered.
This Pinot Noir is medium-bodied and has a gentle oak influence that blends with exciting ripe aromas of cherry, strawberry, and plum. Subtle minerality balances the fruit on the palate, making it an outstanding example of Central Otago Pinot Noir.
“The indigenous Māori people have strong spiritual bonds to the land, and to Papatūānuku—Mother Earth —who sustains all life. Our Central Otago Reserve Pinot Noir is inspired by this bond, and dedicated to the stewardship of humanity and the environment." - Andréa McBride John
