SHE CAN Professional Development Fund

YES, SHE CAN!

Introducing The New Wine In a Can,
Made For Women, By Women

McBride Sistes SHE CAN Wines Logo

Cheers to women’s empowerment! We’re excited to welcome our newest Sisters, SHE CAN Wines, into the McBride Sisters Collection with a Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé! SHE CAN is our new wine in a can...made for women, by women. The best part? You can enjoy these wines where bottles can’t go–at the pool, at a sports game, on a hike, or at home as a convenient way to wind down after a long day. The SHE CAN line of wines reminds you that SHE CAN do anything.

We focus on being environmentally conscious, and because aluminum cans are a lightweight material compared to glass, the carbon footprint to transport SHE CAN is substantially smaller.

SHE CAN Rosé

2018 SHE CAN Rosé by the McBride Sisters is a sophisticated dry Rosé of 45% Pinot Noir, 32% Merlot, and 23% Zinfandel from the Central Coast of California. The refreshing flavors of white raspberry and orange and mandarin zests compliment the chalky earth notes. This is a serious Rosé ladies.

SHE CAN Sauvignon Blanc

2018 SHE CAN Sauvignon Blanc by The McBride Sisters from Marlborough, New Zealand is a perfectly crisp, tropical refresher. You’ll love the carefully balanced notes of passion fruit, fresh kiwi, and white fig. Juicy citrus notes tie the flavors together and linger deliciously on the palate.

McBride Sisters SHE CAN
Professional Development Fund

We have created “The McBride Sisters SHE CAN Professional Development Fund” to promote the professional advancement of women in the wine industry. Through this fund, we will empower women to strive for change and to create opportunities for themselves where there hadn’t been before. Why? Well, while wine is no longer a boy’s club, it’s not a level playing field. Women make up less than 10% of head winemakers and winery owners. Let’s close the gap because we know SHE CAN!

We’ve had an incredible amount of support over the years and we couldn’t be more grateful. We want to show our appreciation through scholarships ensuring that we continue to overcome gender biases within the industry. Our 2019 application season has closed and will reopen in 2020! Please check back here for more information.

After all, “Balance is not a women's issue, it's a business issue.

Give it Up to Girl Power!

You can’t. You’re just a girl.” Boy, please. Out with the outdated gender bias and in with the celebration of badass women. SHE CAN never be stopped! Let’s not limit the celebration to one day or month per year. In the words of the incredible queen, Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.

We know SHE CAN and she will.

The 2020 McBride Sisters SHE CAN Professional Development Fund Scholarship information will be announced on International Women’s Day, March 8th 2020!

Kyle Lynette Burke

Kyle Burke’s journey began 20 years ago as an artist and educator in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Art was her foundation; however, educating high school students in Baltimore City, about Career Exploration fed her passion as a wine connoisseur. In 2015, Kyle launched ‘Yoshisart’, an art and wine based business leading small groups through painting experiences paired with introductory wine tastings. As business grew, so did her love for understanding and sharing the world of enology. Last year, she and her husband had a conversation about diversity within the wine industry, when the idea of producing her own label originated. Without formal training, just love and yearn to understand great tasting wine, ‘Yoshiswine’ was born. To date, she has fermented, blended, and bottled 3 different varietals (Chardonnay Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon & Malbec). Her goal is to produce great wine worthy of any occasion. Being a recipient of the WOTVS / McBride Sisters SHE CAN Professional Development Conference Award extends the opportunity for Kyle to gain the professional development necessary turning a hobby into a business while gaining federal and state licensing for Yoshiswine Varietals. Kyle’s extremely humbled to receive such an award, especially coming from the McBride Sisters SHE CAN Foundation. She knows her duty to continue building diverse platforms the next generation of wine enthusiasts can participate within.

Hannah DeYoung

“I am incredibly honored to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship. Thanks to their generous support, I will be able to focus more on my studies and work less weekends during my final semester. With more time I can dive deeper into the world of wine business and do more research on sustainable winemaking and marketing before graduating and taking the next step in my career. This opportunity has reinvigorated my passion for the industry, and I cannot thank the women behind it enough.”

Hannah DeYoung never planned on falling in love with the wine industry.

While studying Communications at Northeastern University she began hosting Wine Wednesdays at her apartment and on a whim took the Introductory Sommelier Exam in 2015. After graduation, she traveled to Tuscany to work for a winery where she fell in love with everything about the winemaking process; from vine to bottle. She then proceeded to work three harvests—two in Napa and one in Australia. After seeing the production side of winemaking, she yearned to learn more about the business side of the industry and tie in her undergraduate studies. She began the Wine Business MBA Program at Sonoma State University in the fall of 2018. Currently she is the Marketing Coordinator at Bottle Barn and works part-time in the tasting room at Silver Oak Cellars. She hopes to eventually apply her knowledge to start a sustainable wine business of her own and to continue to mentor other women in the field.

Caitlyn V. Krug

Caitlyn Krug’s journey into the world of spirits began in San Sebastian, Spain, where she learned to celebrate the art of hospitality while working as a bartender at a seaside locale in 2013.

This is where she cut her teeth mixing the perfect Spanish gin and tonic and learned how to expertly prepare ginebra, Spanish for ‘gin’ and the inspiration for her future gin brand’s name. After her time abroad, Caitlyn began a corporate career in operations and management consulting, spending the next five years dreaming of the day she could leave her safe desk job to pursue her true passion. This year, she finally took the plunge and acted on her goal to craft a gin that would enhance and elevate the botanical flavors of the Spanish-style gin & tonic. She hopes her gin will make a big splash, leading to the next cocktail trend in the United States. Caitlyn is currently finalizing logistics for an early 2020 product launch in New Orleans, the birthplace of the American cocktail, while simultaneously finishing her MBA from Tulane University where she is specializing in Entrepreneurial Hospitality.

Note: She incorporates wine grapes into her gin recipe!
